Help please, Espero ABS problem

My Espero 1.8 CD is having problems with its abs unit....when i turn it on it goes through the self test, and the abs light goes off, but then in driving, when i brake hard, the abs doesnt turn on and my wheels lock up, and the abs light comes on and stays on....what could it be? Where can i find the ALDL connector on the Espero to self test it? Thnx
